Suplove Ambassador - Tatum Taylor
By day, I am an elementary school teacher. I currently teach Kindergarten, which requires a high level of energy all day long!
Best Suplove moment:
Doing my first SUP headstand last summer! Co-ambassador, Trish Hardy, taught and inspired me to do this, and it was a definite turning point in my practice, both on water and off. My other Suplove moment is the sense of community that has expanded my practice and allowed me to make some instant friends, all through the connection of paddling!
One fun/quirky fact about you?
I need to sort candies by color before I can eat them!
What do you enjoy most about SUP?
I enjoy the connection to nature. My first summer of SUP Yoga classes took place at sunset and offered amazing viewing opportunities to enhance my practice. The next summer it was first thing in the morning as the chill lifts and the sun warms your face during savasana. By far though, the most amazing experience is being upside down on a mountain lake gazing at the majestic mountains.
The most challenging aspect I enjoy about SUP is pushing myself to learn new poses on the board instead of stable land, and recognizing what my body must do to modify and accomplish stability in a pose.
What activities do you enjoy to do on your board?
Hands-down I enjoy yoga/fitness the most, having done classes for several summers now. I also paddle on flat water mountain lakes in the Rocky Mountains. In the winter months, I keep busy indoors with hot yoga, spin, and have incorporated Indo Boards and aerial yoga into my practice as well.
Where are your favourite places to SUP?
Closest to home would be the Rocky Mountains, specifically Barrier Lake and Forget Me Not Pond in Kananaskis. My favorite recent experience was Mission Bay in San Diego
If money wasn’t an issue, what would you do? What makes you smile? What are your passions in life?
If money wasn’t an issue, I would move my family to Hawaii. On one of our first trips there, a local teacher was selling me on the idea of teaching in your slippers (sandals) and I would love to provide my own family the opportunity to live somewhere so amazing.
